Time in Lieu (TOIL)
Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) is an alternative to overtime pay, where employees who work extra hours are compensated with additional leave instead of monetary payment.
In TimeOff.Management, there are two ways to track and record TOIL:
1. Manual Adjustments:
Best suited for irregular situations when time in lieu needs to be added for occasional reasons. This can be done in the Employee Details section under the Allowance tab in the Allowance Adjustment section.

2. Automatically Adding TOIL for Regular Overtime:
When regular overtime is worked, it’s better to use a leave type specifically designed for this purpose, such as Overtime, to automatically add TOIL to the employee's allowance once approved.
The process is simple to set up:
- Create a new leave type: For example, name it Overtime.
- Select the option "Gain from Allowance": Ensure this option is enabled.
- Add a coefficient if required: This coefficient determines how overtime hours are converted into TOIL.For example, if the coefficient is set to 1, one day of TOIL will be added for every day of overtime booked. If the coefficient is set to 1.5, 1.5 days of TOIL will be added for every day of overtime booked.
Here is an example of a leave type with a coefficient of 1.

This is how both bookings will affect the TOIL record once approved:
- An Overtime request with a coefficient of 1 will add 1 day to the employee's allowance.
- An Overtime request with a coefficient of 1.5 will add 1 day and 4 hours (4 hours being half of a standard 8-hour day in this example).
TOIL added to the employee's allowance can then be used for bookings as normal.
