Can employees have a negative holiday allowance?
Yes. Negative allowance lets an employee book leave even when the request takes their main holiday or PTO balance below zero.
This is useful when your company wants to allow an approved exception without increasing the employee’s normal entitlement.
How do I enable negative allowance?
First go to:
Settings → Advanced settings
Switch on Negative allowance feature. The switch saves as you change it.
This feature switch must remain enabled for both the company-wide and individual employee negative allowance settings to work.
Can I enable it for everyone?
Yes.
Enable Allow negative allowance to allow negative balances by default for all employees.
Individual employee settings can override this default.
How do I enable it for one employee?
Go to:
Employees → Select employee → Employee details → Allowance
At the bottom, select the pencil on the Allowance settings caption. Negative allowance enabled is there while the company’s Negative allowance feature, above, is on. Choose Yes or No marked set individually, or the option marked company setting to follow the company-wide default, then select Save changes at the foot of the drawer.
For example, if an employee has 1 day remaining and books 3 days, their remaining allowance can become -2 days.
Does negative allowance override leave type limits?
No.
Negative allowance controls whether the employee’s main allowance can go below zero.
A leave type limit is a separate restriction. If the employee has reached the limit for a particular leave type, you may also need to allow them to exceed that limit.
Negative allowance also does not bypass the normal approval process unless an applicable Auto-approval policy does so.
