Can I set a different leave type limit for one employee?

Yes. You can set a custom limit for a specific leave type for one employee without changing the limit for anyone else.

This is useful when only one or a small number of employees need an exception.

How do I set an individual leave type limit?

Go to:

Employees → Select employee → Employee Details → Leave types

Find the relevant leave type, open the ⋯ menu and select Edit limit override.

Enter the new limit and save your changes.

The leave type will then show Custom Limit for that employee instead of using the standard leave type limit.

What if a large group of employees needs a different limit?

If only a couple of employees need a different limit, individual overrides are usually the simplest option.

If you have larger groups with different entitlements, it is normally better to create separate leave types and assign access through policies.

For example, if:

  • half of your employees can take up to 7 days of Sick Leave; and
  • the other half can take up to 10 days;

you could create two Sick Leave types, each with the appropriate limit, and use Leave Access policies to make the correct leave type available to each group.

This is easier to maintain than setting individual overrides for many employees and makes the different rules clearer.

How do I return an employee to the normal limit?

Open the same ⋯ menu and select Restore limit to global.

The employee will then use the limit configured on the leave type itself.

Is a leave type limit the same as holiday allowance?

No.

A leave type limit controls how much of one specific leave type an employee may take.

The employee’s main holiday or PTO allowance is separate.

For example, an employee could have:

  • 25 days of holiday allowance;
  • a 10-day sick leave limit;
  • a 20-day working-from-home limit.

Changing one of these leave type limits does not change their main holiday allowance.

Can the employee book more than their custom limit?

Changing the individual limit changes what the limit is.

Whether an employee may book beyond that limit is controlled separately through Exceed leave type limits.
