Why isn't a leave type visible to employees?

1 min read By TimeOff Support

By default, a new leave type is available to employees who are not covered by a Leave Access policy.

If an employee cannot see it when booking leave, first check whether their access is controlled by a Leave Access policy.

Is the employee covered by a Leave Access policy?

Go to:

Settings → Employee policies → Leave Access

If an employee is covered by a Leave Access policy, they can use only the leave types granted by the applicable policies.

If you recently created a new leave type, add it to the relevant Leave Access policy.

An employee can be covered by more than one Leave Access policy. The leave types granted by those policies are combined.

Check the employee’s individual leave type settings

If the employee is not governed by a Leave Access policy, go to:

Employees → Select employee → Employee Details → Leave types

Check that Is Available? is enabled for the leave type, then select Save changes.

Use this setting for one-person exceptions.

If a Leave Access policy governs the employee, change their access through the policy instead of the individual Is Available? setting.

Check that the leave type is active

An archived leave type cannot be selected for new leave requests.

If the leave type has been archived accidentally, restore it from Settings → Leave types.

What if the leave type is missing only from Team View?

Booking access and Team View visibility are separate settings.

For non-supervisor employees:

  • Obfuscate on Team View shows the absence as Away instead of displaying the real leave type.
  • Hide from Team View removes the absence from their Team View completely.

These settings do not hide the real leave type from authorised managers and administrators.

For full leave type settings, see Leave types.
